COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A two vehicle collision on the southwest side of Coldwater around 5 pm yesterday included an SUV rolling over with the Jaws of Life used to remove the driver. City police investigated the crash at the intersection of Butters and Garfield Avenue.
According to police, both drivers were alone in their cars and they both live in Coldwater. Officers say 42-year old Chastity Paradine was westbound in her Chrysler mini-van on Garfield and had slowed to turn left onto Butters. That’s when Leonard Burkett, Jr, who was following Paradine, passed her on the left, causing the crash. His 1985 Chevy Blazer rolled and ended up on its side.
Police say Burkett wasn’t wearing a seat belt and smacked his head on the windshield. The Coldwater Fire Department Rescue Squad used the Jaws of Life to remove the roof of the car to assist getting Burkett out of the wreckage. He was transported to the Community Health Center of Branch County by Lifecare Ambulance and later treated and released.
According to Coldwater City Police Burkett was cited for improper passing.
