QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Officials with Quincy Community Schools have announced they will welcome back “Sport” to their staff this school year.
“Sport” began his employment with Quincy Middle School last May. The black labrador retriever is a certified emotional support animal who has received training from Magnum K-9 in Quincy.
He will be serving the middle school, under the direction of counselor Jennifer Rufenacht. But, he may also occasionally visit other district buildings.
“Sport” is up to date on all of his vaccinations and preventative medications. He is also regularly groomed before coming to school each day.
You can call the office at (517) 639-7141 if you have further questions about “Sport”.
Sport was selected to work in a school setting because of his calm demeanor and his ability to be trained.
It’s felt there has been an increase in anxiety and depression since the COVID-19 pandemic and many schools with therapy dogs report they have had less office referrals and better attendance.

This is wonderful support for children! God bless the person who came up with this idea!
