PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team dropped a pair of games at the Justin Bailey Memorial in Portage Saturday, falling to Portage Northern 3-1 and Plainwell 2-1.
In the first game, the Cardinals lone goal came on a penalty kick from Arif Ahmed, as Portage Northern outshot Coldwater 10-7. Franky Ramos made three saves in goal.
In the second game, the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead over Plainwell with 9:36 to play in the first half on goal from Ezaldeen Ahmed, assisted by Rasheed Ahmed. Plainwell then scored a penalty kick with 1:10 to play in the first half to tie the score, and then scored the winning goal with 22:45 to play in the game.
Ramos made four saves in goal, as Coldwater outshot Plainwell 16-7.
The Cardinals are now 0-3 on the season and will host Chelsea for their home opener this Thursday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team lost to Portage Northern 2-1, with their lone goal from Nasser Abdullah. They beat Plainwell 3-2, with two goals from Amer Ahmed and one from Ahmed Norman.
Their record is now 1-1-1.
