COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Figures on this years Household Hazardous Waste collection from the Coldwater B.P.U. show nearly 5,000 more pounds of materials were collected this year than in 2019.
The final numbers for the September 26 event at the Branch County Fairgrounds will be presented to the C.B.P.U. Board of Directors on Wednesday night but they are available now at www.coldwater.org.
Over 22,000 pounds was collected this year which included over 4,800 pounds of motor oil. The other top collections were for oil-based paint and motor oil.
There were 212 vehicles that showed up this year which was up from 204 last year. The 2018 collection had a record turnout of 312 vehicles.
There were 92 vehicles from the City of Coldwater, 43 from Coldwater Township and 26 from Ovid Township.
Besides residents in the City of Coldwater, those will live in Bronson and Quincy were allowed to take part along with those who live in Algansee, Bethel, Bronson, Coldwater, Ovid, Quincy, Union and Kinderhook Townships.
The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day takes place annually and gives local residents a chance to dispose of the assorted hazardous waste in their homes free of charge.
The collection of materials has been going on for almost two decades.
