BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service says highs are expected to get into the mid 90s with heat index readings well over 100 on Thursday.
Because of the expected stifling conditions, forecasters have issued a HEAT ADVISORY from 11:00 a.m. until midnight on Thursday for Branch and Hillsdale Counties as heat index values are expected to get up to 105.
The Heat Advisory for other portions of southwest Michigan got underway on Wednesday morning and will go until 2:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
Steamier conditions are expected to the south. Northern Indiana including Steuben County are under an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING from 11:00 a.m. until midnight on Thursday.
Forecasters say dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110 are expected in the Hoosier State.
It’s recommended that you drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
According to the National Weather Service, extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
