COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners have less than four months to prepare a proposal for a county jail millage question that would be decided in the August primary, and that process leading to wording for the ballot will move forward today. The board is holding its second work meeting of January and will receive a jail study presentation from their consultants. The deadline to have the ballot question submitted to the county clerk’s office is May 10, 2016.
Also, commissioners will get an update on concerns expressed earlier this month by more than a dozen building contractors in the county who had numerous complaints about an inspector hired by the county on a private contract basis and employed by the Building Inspection Department. The inspector in question, Steve Buller, has his side of the story and it’s an agenda item, including what words of advice he heard from his boss, county Administrator Bud Norman, who also is in charge of the Building Inspection Department.
