BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget reported on Thursday that Branch County’s unemployment rate went up for the third straight month in July to four-point-five percent.
The data showed that not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates increased in 14 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas over the month.
Wayne Rourke from the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics says, “Michigan regional labor markets exhibited typical jobless rate hikes during July. Seasonal job cuts in the state’s government sector contributed to payroll employment decreases across most metro areas.”
The report went on to say 51 Michigan counties exhibited jobless rate increases between June and July while 18 counties displayed rate decreases over the month and 14 county unemployment rates were unchanged.
Unemployment rates went up in neighboring counties. The jobless rate in St. Joseph County jumped to five-point-four percent while it was four-point-nine percent in Hillsdale County and five-point-one percent in Calhoun County.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in July held steady at three-point-six percent.
Unemployment rates around Michigan in May ranged from two-point-eight percent in Livingston County to seven-point-five percent in Oscoda County.
