COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The case involving one of two suspects from Detroit who are charged with trying to smuggle drugs and smart phones into the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater has been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
59-year-old Edison William Terry waived his Branch County District Court preliminary exam which was scheduled for Tuesday. His Circuit Court arraignment is scheduled for September 11.
Terry and 28-year-old Adoreray Samone Bruce are each facing five charges. Branch County Prosecutors have charged both of them with delivery of controlled substances, conspiracy to commit delivery of a controlled substance, possession of meth, attempted bringing contraband into a prison and attempted bringing cellphones into a prison.
Terry is also facing a fourth offense habitual offender sentencing enhancer. He has previous convictions for larceny, breaking and entering, receiving and concealing stolen property and malicious destruction of property.
Bruce’s case is still in District Court as she has a new attorney. Her probable cause hearing has been rescheduled for September 28 while her preliminary exam is now set for October 4.
Terry and Bruce were arrested by the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Corrections on August 13 following a month long investigation into incidents involving drugs and cell phones being smuggled into the Lakeland Correctional Facility. Court documents state the packages recovered by police contained two smart phones, about 96 grams of marijuana wax, 10 grams of suspected powder heroin and about 30 grams of suspect methamphetamine.
Not guilty pleas were entered for both suspects during their District Court arraignments.
