COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Snow covered and slippery roads redeveloped around the Branch County area last night after conditions had improved during the day Monday following the scattered icy sections that developed in the early morning hours yesterday prompting schools across the County to call off classes for the day. Potentially hazardous driving conditions are being reported this morning since two to three inches of snow accumulated Monday evening into early today with some blowing and drifting snow and at least another inch of the white stuff forecast for today with snow squalls likely.
Branch County Road Commission Manager Trent Arver reminds everyone to drive cautiously and know that they need an extended distance to stop with snow and icy conditions. Also, if motorists come into close proximity to one of the Commission’s plow trucks, don’t forget they do back up at intersections, so for their own safety, he suggests they steer clear of the trucks as much as possible.
According to Arver, they do keep the speed of their trucks to a minimum while realizing they are responsible for all of the roads in Branch County. He adds they do appreciate the understanding of the citizens of the county.
The Branch County Road Commission for 2016 has a total of 31 trucks to work with including five replacements for the fleet this year, noting they have quite a vehicles that are at least 20 years old.
