COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman told the county’s Planning Commission on Wednesday morning that plans for the demolition of the nearly 70-year-old building that used to house the Branch County Jail continue to proceed.
Once the old jail is knocked down, plans call for the site to be paved over next year.
Branch County got around $146,000 in grant funds from the State of Michigan earlier this summer to assist in the funding of the demolition project.
It was part of over $21 million being offered by the State of Michigan to local communities to address vacant and abandoned properties.
The new Branch County Jail began housing inmates in December of 2021 marking the first time since the early 90s that inmates had not been housed in what was once the Maple Lawn senior care facility.
