COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The storms on August 24 that led to at least seven tornadoes being reported in Michigan may have missed Branch County but local power crews pitched in to help get the lights back on for those affected by the severe weather.
Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Director Paul Jakubczak said in his report for Wednesday’s B.P.U. Board of Directors meeting that three linemen and one apprentice from the B.P.U. were dispatched August 25 to aid in the restoration efforts.
They were called in due to an EF-2 tornado with wind speeds of almost 125 miles an hour that struck the greater Lansing area the evening before.
The towns of Webberville and Williamston were among the hardest hit by the storms which killed least five persons in Michigan.
C.B.P.U. crews worked for five straight days before returning to Branch County on August 30.
