BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A fire in the bag house at the asphalt plant operated by the Branch County Road Commission on Harold Sellers Drive near U.S. 12 and the Capri Drive-In caused about $50,000 worth of damage on Tuesday afternoon.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says his department was dispatched at 4:47 p.m.. Coldwater firefighters assisted and provided an engine so crews could be rotated due to the extreme heat and humidity.
Temperatures were in the upper 80s with heat index readings in the low 90s at the time of the fire.
The fire broke out in an area which collects dust from the asphalt plant that is then recycled.
Wilber says a firefighter suffered a minor injury and that the fire was caused by overheating. Fire crews were on the scene for about 90 minutes.
