BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – If it was their last match of the season, Coldwater’s girls volleyball team went out with a flourish on Monday night as they defeated Holt three games to two in the opening round of the M.H.S.A.A. Division One District Tournament at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Cardinals won by scores of 25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-13. Coldwater trailed 13-11 in the final game but scored the final four points to pull out the victory.
Coldwater is scheduled to face Mason on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. but with Coldwater Community Schools announcing on Monday they would be going to virtual learning for the next two weeks and with all Coldwater athletic events and practices cancelled until an approved plan is created and executed properly to deal with the COVID-19 issues in the transportation department, that match was very much up in the air as of Tuesday morning.
Okemos is scheduled to play Jackson Northwest in the first semifinal at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m..
Quincy saw their season come to an end on Monday night as they lost at Homer three games to one in the first round of the Division Three District being hosted by Bronson. Homer advanced to face the host Vikings on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m..
Reading defeated Concord three games to nothing in the other first round match on Monday. The Rangers will play Union City on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.. The Bronson District finals will be on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m..
In the Division Four District hosted by Mendon, Tekonsha advanced on Monday night with a three games to nothing victory over Coldwater Pansophia Academy. Tekonsha will take on Mendon in a district semifinal match at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. The winner plays either Burr Oak or Athens at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night.
