COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency informing Coldwater Community Schools on Monday that the district will need to transition to a virtual learning model for the next 14 days, the immediate future of fall athletics at Coldwater High School is in limbo.
The football, girls volleyball, girls swimming teams along with three members of the cross country teams are all scheduled to see action this week.
Athletic Director Todd Farmer said in a letter to parents that the health and safety of all students will always be placed at the forefront of their decisions.
He added the Health Department have provided guidance that if they were to allow the fall sports seasons to continue after Monday night, they needed to take extra measures to help ensure that not only Coldwater student-athletes are safe, but those whom they compete against are safe as well and that they looking into the possibility of taking extra precautions for the fall athletes to continue on with their season.
Farmer says they are working with the health department to determine possible safety measures but until further notice, all Coldwater athletic events and practices will be cancelled until such time that an approved plan is created and able to be executed properly.
Farmer said, “I appreciate your patience as we want to find a way to have the student athletes continue with their events but we must do so safely and with consideration for all involved. I will keep you posted as soon as our next steps are solidified.”
