JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Fremont, Indiana woman was injured Monday afternoon in a head on crash just south of the Branch-Steuben County line.
Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson says the two vehicle crash happened just after 4:15 pm on State Road 127 near State Road 727.
Upon initial crash investigation, it was determined that a 2008 Pontiac G6 driven by 32 year old Kaitlyn A. Walker of Fremont was traveling north on State Road 127 when it rounded a curve in the road.
The second vehicle, a 2017 Chevy Silverado driven by 22 year old Corbin M. Martin of Waterloo, was traveling south on 127 approaching the same curve in the road.
As the two vehicles were approaching each other, Walker’s vehicle went left of the center line and into the path of Martin’s vehicle.
Deputies say Martin tried to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful and both vehicles collided head-on but a relative for Walker disputes the Sheriff’s Department report and says Walker was not at fault.
Walker was taken to Cameron Hospital by Steuben County EMS in serious condition with lower leg injuries and then later transferred to a Fort Wayne area hospital for further treatment.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
