COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A woman was saved from the channel between Mudd and Bartholomew Lakes by a couple of neighbors Tuesday morning as she tried to get her dog off the thin ice.
Lakeland Firefighters and Lifecare Ambulance were dispatched just after 11:00 a.m. to the channel north of Central Road.
Lakeland Fire Chief Paul Searing says it’s not clear how the woman in her early 60s got into the water.
The incident happened on one of the coldest mornings of the year. The temperature at the time was near 10 degrees above zero.
The unidentified woman was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment but her dog did not survive.
