COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County got a white Christmas after all as an estimated three to four inches of snow fell on Christmas Eve.
Snowfall totals around the region were consistent as most areas got three to five inches of snow just as National Weather Service forecasters had predicted.
Between eight to ten inches of snow fell in extreme southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana.
While wishes for a white Christmas were fulfilled, the snowfall also led to a lot of travel problems on Christmas Eve as a large area of southern Michigan, northern Indiana and northwest Ohio was place under a Winter Weather Advisory.
Police around Branch County had to handle 16 accidents or slide offs between noon and midnight on Christmas Eve. Two of the accidents were dispatched as personal injury accidents. One was reported on northbound I-69 near the Girard exit. Another was reported on Marshall Road north of Fleming Road.
The snow from Christmas Eve is going to stick around for awhile. The forecast for this week is calling for snow showers each day right through New Year’s Day, with highs only in the teens.
