BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Big 8 Conference may be smaller this season but it’s still as unpredictable as ever.
Noah Pearson scored four touchdowns, three of them on the ground, as the Quincy Orioles bounced back from last week’s lopsided loss to Bronson and defeated the Springport Spartans 26-22 on Military Night at Springport.
Pearson finished with 134 yards rushing on 22 carries. The Orioles are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 8.
Meanwhile, a week after they manhandled Quincy, the Bronson Vikings had a rough night as they lost at Reading 36-12. Colin York’s five yard touchdown was the only score for the Vikings in the first half as the Rangers built a 20-6 halftime lead. Seth Withington scored from 13 yards out in the third quarter to cut the lead to 20-12 but the officials threw him out of the game on the ensuing kickoff when a scuffle broke out. The Vikings dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 8.
Union City lost for the first time this season as they were beaten in their Homecoming game by Saugatuck 15-14. The Trailblazers got the winning points on a successful two point conversion attempt following a touchdown with 3:28 left in regulation.
Dylon McDonald scored both TD’s for Union City on runs of four and 22 yards. The non-conference loss left the Chargers with an overall record of 3-1.
