COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Three farms and one apartment building in Branch County have received a portion of $1,649,540 in grants to western Michigan agriculture producers and rural small businesses to make investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency to lower their costs, generate new income, and strengthen the resilience of their operation.
The projects are funded through the Rural Energy for America Program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development.
JM Wingard LLC, owner of the Kerr Building in downtown Coldwater, received $14,659 for installation of solar panels on the roof of the three story building.
Central Grace Farms LLC received $90,875, Pridgeon Farms LLC received $95,225, and Coles Farms Inc was awarded $75,874.
In making the grant announcements Wednesday, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan Brandon Fewins said, “The dozens of projects we have highlighted over the last three weeks show the extent and geographic diversity of USDA’s support for rural businesses. The good news is that we are able to continue this support for new applicants and entrepreneurs who want to transition to renewable energy or become more energy efficient.”
