COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Election Commission Wednesday approved the language in a recall petition that was filed by Michael Exelby against Kinderhook Township Clerk Cynthia Carpenter.
Exelby has raised several issues with Carpenter, including how she has been reimbursed for mileage.
It’s Exelby’s second attempt to file a recall petition. His first petition was rejected by the Election Commission because of vagueness two weeks ago.
Carpenter now has 10 days to appeal the boards decision.
Exelby needs to collect 124 valid signatures before a recall election can be scheduled. The deadline is the end of business February 2, 2018. If that happens, a recall election would be scheduled for May 8, 2018.
Carpenter defeated Exelby by 12 votes, 138-126, in the August 2016 Republican primary.
