COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An inmate in the St. Louis Correctional Facility was given a sentence of between 28 months and 14 years on Monday in Branch Circuit Court after entering a no contest plea to delivery of a controlled substance.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections web site, 37-year-old Kyle Witek is currently serving time out of St. Joseph County for second degree arson. The sentence he got Monday will be served consecutive to the time he is currently serving. Witek previously served time in prison for possession of methamphetamine and second degree home invasion.
In exchange for his no contest plea, prosecutors dismissed a charge of delivering less than 50 grams of a controlled substance and they agreed not to prosecute Witek in connection with the drug overdose death of Seth Zakora who died last January at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater.
Zakora and two other Lakeland prisoners overdosed in one weekend. It happened as the Michigan State Police investigated the smuggling of suboxone into the prison.
