COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council introduced an agreement on a renegotiated three year lease with the non-profit Coldwater Community Center, Incorporated on Monday night.
Their members have been renovating the former Putnam Funeral Home in downtown Coldwater. The building is now being utilized as a community center pursuant to an original one year lease with the city.
The group which is made up of local citizens has made significant progress on improving the property and spokesperson Kathy Bappert had news Monday night about a grant that has just been awarded to them.
City Manager Keith Baker says the renegotiated three-year lease continues some of the key features of the previous lease with no rent to be paid by the community group in exchange for its continued work and fundraising for the building.
The City would pay the utilities for the first year but the group would be obligated to pay those utilities for the second two years.
The next regular Council meeting at which the agreement might be given final approval would be on November 13.
