Joseph Richard Fulkerson, 88, of Bronson, formerly of Athens, died Sunday September 24, 2023, at Optalis Health and Rehab in Three Rivers under hospice care.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, he has been cremated and a public graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Burr Oak Cemetery in Athens.
He will be laid to rest with his parents in the family plot. Pastor Fred Goebert from Factoryville Bible Church will officiate.
The family is being assisted by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Joe was born on November 30, 1934 to Joseph and Maxine (Bruce) Fulkerson in Battle Creek, MI. He attended Athens High School with the class of 1952.
In the early 1950s he married Lillian Lutz. They had two daughters together and later divorced. She survives.
He was proud that he was able to build his own home around the age of twenty years old. Joseph lived in Owensboro, KY in the 1970’s, later moving back to Athens, MI.
Joseph had been living in Bronson for the last three years. Joseph worked as a plumber for West and Sons Plumbing in Battle Creek, MI, and for Cliff Fulkerson Sanitation. His friends around Athens will always remember how much he enjoyed riding his moped around town.
Joe is survived by his children, Debbie Starkweather of Battle Creek and Susan Tedrick of SC; siblings, Betty Jean Evans of Texas, Barbara Flanders of Athens, and Patricia (Alvin) Disbrow of Athens, MI; and many grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Danny Fulkerson; brothers-in-law, Clarence Jones, Lem Evans, and Flip Flanders.
