BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police troopers from the Marshall Post were able to track down and arrest a Detroit man who allegedly fled from them last Friday morning.
Troopers initially stopped the driver of a Chevy Tahoe on U.S. 12 near the Branch County Municipal Airport for going 79 miles an hour in a 55 mile per hour zone at about 1:30 a.m.. The vehicle plate information indicated an expired registration and no insurance.
As troopers approached the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed. For public safety reasons, troopers decided not initiate a chase as they had enough information from the vehicle and video to launch an investigation to later locate the driver.
Troopers later found the vehicle parked at a local hotel. Video surveillance footage from the hotel confirmed the driver had arrived in the same vehicle that he fled in. He was also observed on video checking into the hotel with a 22-year-old woman.
Efforts to contact the driver in his room were unsuccessful so a search warrant to enter the room was obtained and executed.
Both the alleged driver and the woman were detained and interviewed.
After the driver’s identity was confirmed through video, witness statements, and other evidence, troopers arrested 26-year-old Jimiel Jackson on two counts of fourth degree fleeing and eluding a police officer; resisting and obstructing a police officer; driving without a valid license; and operating a vehicle without security.
He was lodged at the Branch County jail and arraigned in Branch County District Court later in the day.
