COLDWATER, OH (WTVB) – Social media trolls have their Coldwaters mixed up.
The news broke this week of a former Coldwater woman filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against the police department in Coldwater, Michigan following an incident last July at the Branch County Jail.
It led to a lot of social media comments with many expressing outrage over the incident and a lot of anger towards the officers involved.
But some went to social media sites for the police department in Coldwater, Ohio to express their opinions. It got so bad that Chief Jason Miller of the Coldwater, Ohio police department had to post a message on their Facebook page which said, “Since we are getting bombarded with emails and Facebook messages, we need to address this. There is a video floating around the internet of a Coldwater officer throwing a woman to the ground. I assure you this officer is not and has never been a member of the Coldwater Ohio Police Department.”
Another example of social media trolls going after the wrong person happened a few years ago to Baltimore Ravens play-by-play announcer Gerry Sandusky when some confused him with the former Penn State assistant football coach who was convicted of numerous child molesting charges.
The video of the incident at the Branch County Jail has gone viral and has been picked up by local TV stations around the country and several national news media outlets including ABC, CBS and the Fox News Network.
