BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers and the Quincy Orioles both had to make long bus rides to Monroe County on Friday night.
The two hour bus trip did not bother Union City as they scored a convincing 44-6 victory over Petersburg-Summerfield.
The Chargers enjoyed a 373-73 edge in total yards as they improved their record to 6-1.
Union City quarterback Elijah Payne passed for 96 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Riley Laird and Rick Austin.
Austin also rushed for a pair of second half touchdowns. His 33-yard scoring scamper in the third quarter gave the Chargers a 37-0 lead and sent the game into the running clock criteria.
The Union City defense contributed a pair of scoop and scores in the first quarter as the Chargers built a 20-0 lead. Hunter Gilles returned a fumble five yards for a score. Landyn Crance later scored on a 50 yard fumble return.
Jason Shoop booted a 24 yard field goal. Brendan Labar led the balanced Chargers rushing attack with 79 yards on eight carries.
Dylon MacDonald had 65 yards on 14 carries. Laird had 49 yards on 11 carries.
Meanwhile, the Quincy Orioles traveled to Erie-Mason and were beaten 52-27.

Quincy quarterback Brennan Allman passed for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
Allman threw a 26-yard TD pass to Alex Dunn and a 41-yard scoring strike to Ryan Kempter.
Alex Barry threw a 29-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Noah Pearson rushed for 102 yards which included a 34-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
The Orioles have dropped three straight games as their record fell to 2-5.
