COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While the Coldwater and Branch County area is expecting several more inches of snow over the next few days, St. Joseph County is among the counties in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana that are under a Winter Storm Watch from late Monday night through Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service says heavy lake effect snow is possible and travel is expected to be difficult Tuesday.
Forecasters say total snow accumulations of five to nine inches, with localized amounts of up to 12 inches, are possible. Blowing and drifting snow is also possible with strong and gusty northwest winds of between 30 and 40 miles an hour.
Snowfall rates of one to three inches per hour will be possible within the stronger lake effect bands. Whiteout conditions will likely occur in these bands.
Branch County is not included in the watch area, but the western part of the county is expected to be affected by the heavier snow.
