MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys basketball team could not overcome a cold start as they fell at Marshall 51-46 in the Interstate 8 opener for both teams. The Redhawks led 16-3 after the first quarter, but the Cardinals outscored Marshall in the middle quarters 27-15 to cut the deficit to 1 heading into the final quarter.
Gage McGuire was our McDonald’s Player of the Game, leading Coldwater with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Brady Beckhusen added 13 points and 4 boards as the Cardinals drop to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the Interstate 8.
The Luciani twins led the way for Marshall – Jeremy with a game-high 22 and Jack with 11.

In competitive cheer, Coldwater, Bronson, and Union City open up the season at the Homer Invitational. In boys swimming, Coldwater opens the season at the Marshall Invitational.
And in bowling, Quincy makes its program debut with a match against the Jonesville JV team at Airport Lanes.
