MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater did what no other team in the Interstate 8 had been able to do in the league’s three-year existence: defeat the Marshall Redhawks in girls basketball. The Cardinals used a balanced scoring attack to get the 42-30 win.
Malorie Rzepka led the team with 9 points, Tyler Schied had 8 points and 10 rebounds, and Olivia Foley added 8. Our McDonald’s Player of the Game, Cris Fontecha, had 6 points and 9 boards. Jamie Wellet also scored 6, and Carlee Crabtree had 5 points and 4 steals.
Coldwater improved to 3-0 overall, 1-0 in the Interstate 8. Natalie Tucker had a game-high 19 points for Marshall, who drops to 1-3 overall, 0-1 in the Interstate 8.

Union City held a slim 18-17 lead over cross-county rival Quincy at the halftime break, but the Orioles out scored the Chargers 28-12 the rest of the way to pick up a 45-30 home win against the Chargers.
Allison Parshall had a game-high 14 points for Quincy, while Katie Rathbun added 11 and Madison Hinds had 8 points and 7 rebounds as the Orioles improve to 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the Big 8.
Allison Adams led Union City with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Autumn Carpenter added 8 and Paige Kline scored 7 as the Chargers fall to 3-1 overall, 0-1 in the Big 8.
Bronson improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Big 8 with a 38-33 win against visiting Homer.
