BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A draft ordinance will be put together by Bronson city officials that would allow golf carts to be driven in most parts of the City of Bronson.
After a public hearing was held this past Monday night, the City Council directed City Manager Brandon Mersman, City Attorney Chuck Lillis and Police Chief Steven Johnson to put together an ordinance so they could review it at a later time.
As expected, there were mixed opinions from audience members.
City Attorney Chuck Lillis told the Council a golf cart ordinance must follow state guidelines.
Golf carts are currently allowed in the nearby communities of Union City, Quincy and Sturgis.
Johnson made it clear during the Council’s September meeting he was opposed to them.
Johnson said in a letter to the Council last month that if they allow golf carts, a strong enforceable ordinance needs to be drafted and strictly adhered to. He also wanted a year-to-year review of the golf cart issue if the Council goes in that direction.
