BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Two Coldwater High School players had double-doubles as the Cardinals won their boys basketball season opener 61-51 Tuesday night at Battle Creek Lakeview. It was a successful debut for Quinn Berry as Coldwater’s varsity coach.
Our McDonald’s Player of the Game was Coldwater forward Dylan Targgart, as he led the Cardinals with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Gage McGuire had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Damon Beckhusen added 11 points.
Coldwater used a 16-9 second quarter to turn the game in their favor as the Cardinals led at halftime 32-27. While Lakeview hit 11 three-pointers, the Spartans were held to 32 percent shooting. Coldwater also had a 48-37 edge in rebounding.
Lakeview won the J.V. game 54-35, as well as the freshman contest 44-43.

Larson Kever had 29 points and 13 rebounds for the Chargers while Blade Gordon added 10 points. Union City also won the J.V. game 40-20.
