COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Sherwood woman was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after she entered no contest pleas to a pair of amended charges for attempted second degree criminal sexual conduct.
41-year-old Joy Deeren was charged in connection with a 2008 incident. In exchange for her pleas, the original two second degree C.S.C. counts were dismissed by prosecutors.
Deeren was given a one year jail sentence with credit for 61 days already served. She was also placed on five years of probation and was told she could not have any alcohol, drugs or weapons. Deeren must also stay out of bars and subject herself to a police search without a warrant.
She was also ordered to pay over $1,100 in fines and costs.
In a separate case, her 51-year-old husband Tony Zongker entered no contest pleas in July 2017 to two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct. He was given a sentence of 15 to 40 years in one case and a term of 18 to 40 years in the second case.
His crimes took place between 2010 and 2014 and involved two young children.
