QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Community Schools officials announced late Friday afternoon that they would transition all K-12 students to virtual learning through Thanksgiving, with plans to return to in-person learning on November 30th, the Monday following Thanksgiving Break.
The move follows a switch to virtual learning put in place at Quincy High School this past Thursday, with the rest of the district following on Friday.
The rise in COVID-19 cases in Branch County over the past week is cited as the reason for the transition. In a letter posted to the district website, Superintendent Marc Kramer reported that ten staff members had to be placed into quarantine, with another four that may need to quarantine as well. Substitute teachers have been in short supply, and officials would not be able to cover all the open positions caused by the quarantines.
Custodial and maintenance staffers will be conducting deep cleaning in all district buildings over the next three weeks, in preparation for the return of students on November 30th.
