COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department has issued a statement about the “shelter in place” that was initiated for a short time by Coldwater Community Schools at Coldwater High School on Thursday.
According to a post on the Sheriff’s Department Facebook page, a shelter in place condition was issued after there were reports of gunfire heard in the area.
During the same time frame at around 11:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Department deputies were conducting firearms training on the west side of town, outside of the city limits at their training range.
This training is also being conducted throughout Friday as well. The Sheriff’s Department says, “We would like to assure everyone that every possible precaution is taken to keep the public safe, and even though notifications were made prior to the training yesterday, that information was not relayed.”
If you have any questions, you can call the Sheriff’s Department at (517) 278-2325.
Administrators for Coldwater Schools said they got information of a potential threat in the vicinity of the school which led to the shelter in place. Coldwater Police were notified and after an investigation, it was determined there was no threat to C.H.S. students or staff and the “shelter in place” was lifted.
I support our Sheriff John Pollack and his dept. They do a great job in Branch County!
