COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Tuesday was the last day on the job for Coldwater Fire Department Captain Al Miller after over 29 years of service.
Branch County Central Dispatch gave him a final salute at 1:00 p.m. Seconds after that dispatch, a call for a man slumped over a vehicles steering wheel at Waterworks Park came in.
Miller was among those from the fire department who went out to check on the man. It turns out he was just taking a nap.
Other fire departments in Branch County could be heard on the police scanner on Tuesday wishing him good luck and a happy retirement.
Miller started as a part-paid firefighter in 1988 and was hired as a full-time firefighter two years later. Miller was eventually promoted to Lieutenant in February of 1994 and to Captain in August of the following year.
