UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A congregate meal program at the Union City Senior Center will start in January following recent action by the Commission on Aging Board of Directors.
According to minutes from the September 20 meeting, the board evaluated cost per meal, and number of meals per person per month, of both the restaurant voucher program and the potential Union City Senior Center congregate site.
Executive Director Amy Duff stated with the passing of the Cost Allocation Plan by the Branch County Board of Commissioners starting in 2025, the C.O.A. needed to think more carefully on its spending.
Duff reviewed that the Board had voiced that home-delivered meals should be a priority due to vulnerability.
Eventually, the Board voted to eliminate the restaurant voucher program at the end of 2023 and to go forward with the proposed contract with the Village of Union City for the congregate meal program at the Senior Center.
The Commission on Aging began to distribute Home Delivered Meals and Congregate Meals in Branch County last January.
