PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The 2017-2018 girls high school basketball season gets underway tonight across the state of Michigan. The Coldwater Lady Cardinals open their schedule in a non-conference match-up at Portage Central.

Also around the arrea, Quincy will host Marshall Academy, Union City will play at Colon, and Pansophia Academy opens at Tekonsha.
—MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL—
Both of the Legg Middle School 8th grade teams defeated Pennfield on Monday night while the seventh graders split.
The 8th grade A team improved to 7-0 with a 66-31 victory. Brandon Downs scored 12 points and had four steals while Evan Sloane grabbed 16 rebounds. Aaron May and Ethan Crabtree both had four assists.
The 8th grade B team won 46-12. Gavin Budd had 14 points while Jeff Galloway had 11 points and Joe Eichorn had six rebounds, five steals and four assists.
The 7th grade A team lost 56-43. Elijah Sloan had 11 points while Donte Work had 10 points.
The 7th grade B team won their first game of the season 32-20. Hamid Abdulla led Legg with 23 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Zach Lewis grabbed 12 rebounds.
