COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There was no change in the result of a close Fourth Ward Coldwater City Council race following a recount of the ballots that was conducted on Monday by the Branch County Board of Canvassers.
The recount showed that Scott Houtz retained his Council seat as he defeated challenger Dan Corwin by three votes, 143-140, in the November 7th election.
Houtz won a partial term seat on the Council that runs until 2019.
Corwin asked for the recount because he felt the county’s new voting machines did not count all of the ballots.
Coldwater City Clerk Susan Heath said the Board of Canvassers found that the number of voters matched the number of ballots that were cast.
All of the ballots were then hand counted by the board one at a time.
There were 11 members of the public in attendance along with various city and Branch County officials.
