PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – It was a big day for the Union City cross country teams at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three Regional meet at Portage as the boys team and Alli Gautsche punched their tickets for the state finals next Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.
Union City’s boys advanced as they were third in the team standings. Buchanan finished first with 70 points. Olivet was second with 83 points. The Chargers were third with 135 points. They edged out Buchanan by 19 points for the final transfer spot to M.I.S..
Union City’s Ben Gautsche was fourth with a time of 16:44.78. Cohen Burdick was 20th, Cullen Decker finished 30th and Maddox Miller was 32nd.
The Union City girls were fifth and missed heading to M.I.S. by 40 points. Alli Gautsche was second with a time of 20:18.71. Alissa Skirka was 19th. Keira Taylor was 35th.
The Union City contingent will join Ava Hathaway and Ashlynn Harris from Bronson along with Kendyl Musielewicz from Quincy and Max Barron and Angel VeenKant from Tekonsha at M.I.S..
The season ended for the Coldwater boys cross country team as they finished ninth at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two Regional meet at Portage. James DeWitt was the top finisher for the Cards as he was 39th. Luke Aerts was 40th, Umari Umari was 45th and Aiden Parker was 53rd.
