COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – This is Forensic Nurses Week which is designed to recognize the dedicated nurses who provide exceptional care to patients impacted by violence, abuse, and trauma.
Sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse and human trafficking continue to be major healthcare issues. Yet fewer than 20 percent of hospitals in the United States have a forensic nurse on staff.
ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital’s Sexual Assault Services is proud to have a team of three specially trained forensic nurses who serve the needs of Branch County and the surrounding area.
Program Coordinator Laura Kopacz says, “By providing forensic nursing services 24 hours a day -7 days a week, Branch County Sexual Assault Services (BCSAS) provides the community with an important resource to ensure that patients impacted by violence and abuse receive the specialized care they deserve.”
Forensic Nurses are available at the Emergency Department in ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital 24 hours a day- 7 days a week for victims of violence and abuse.
