COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners felt it was best for the county to maintain the “status quo” for 2021 after they were presented with the third draft of Branch County’s proposed budget during their work session last Thursday.
The latest draft presented by Administrator Bud Norman to the Commercials showed a $2.3 million deficit between expenses and revenues.
It’s hoped grants and the CARES act will help make up for the drop in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commissioners were presented with three options with hopes of getting the deficit down to between $1 and $2 million by the time the fourth draft is presented.
Sheriff John Pollack pointed out during the discussion that his department’s requests for equipment, manpower and training may seem large but they are not fanciful. The Commissioners did not have a problem with reviewing the Sheriff’s Department budget requests later in 2021.
Commissioners would also like the Human Services parking lots to get a much needed repaving at the time the Road Commission paves the new jail parking lot.
The formal adoption of the 2021 spending plan is scheduled for December 22.
