BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Tuesday’s off year election ballot in Branch County is light with only two local proposals and uncontested races in the City of Coldwater.
Those who choose to vote in person on Tuesday in both of the Quincy Township precincts will be asked to approve a millage request so that the Township can purchase an event center at 295 North Ray Quincy Road and make enough improvements to the building so it can used as a township hall.
Voters will decide whether or not the township can establish an annual special assessment of no more than a half mill over about six-and-a-half years. If approved, the millage would raise $500,000.
Township Treasurer Tim Brockway told the Quincy Village Council in August a town hall is needed because township board members currently work out of the basement of the library or from their homes.
Township officials would like to have their own township hall to work from and be able to hold their own elections.
Tuesday’s balloting on the Quincy Township question will take place at the location of the intended Township Hall at the corner of Sebring and Ray Quincy Roads.
The Bronson Community School District will ask voters on Tuesday to renew a building and site sinking fund millage for five years.
The current tax levy expires after this year. The authorized millage rate is 1.9766 mills or $1.9766 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation that may be assessed against all property in Bronson Community School District.
The building and site sinking fund is used for the construction or repair of school buildings, school security improvements, the acquisition or upgrading of technology; and all other purposes authorized by law. It’s estimated the school district will collect about $460,000 in 2024 if the millage renewal is approved.
Ovid Township voters in the Bronson School District will vote at the Bethel Township Hall which is located at Snow Prairie and Rose Roads.
Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer and City Council members Emily Rissman, Chad Johnson, John Petzko and Scott Houtz are running unopposed. Petzko is running as a write-in candidate.
The Mayor’s term is for two years. Terms for City Council members are for four years.
