BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A proposed golf cart ordinance is scheduled to come before the Bronson City Council for possible adoption on Monday night.
The ordinance has been drafted by City Attorney Chuck Lillis, Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson and City Manager Brandon Mersman.
Mersman says the ordinance closely follows the state statute. Requirements call for golf carts to be registered with the City in order to be able to operate on City streets. Drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and be 16 years or older. The speed limit would be 15 miles per hour and golf carts can only be operated during daylight hours.
There will be no riding of golf carts on U.S. 12 but they may cross U.S. 12 where there is a 4-way stop light.
The ordinance also provides for penalties that would be treated as civil infractions. The first violation would be a $100 fine. The second and subsequent violations would result in a fine of $150.
