Laine E. Houtz, 26, formerly of Bronson passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in Rome City, IN.
The funeral will be held Monday, November 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Doug Noonkester from the First Baptist Church in Sturgis officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Interment will follow cremation at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Laine was born March 7, 1997, in Sturgis, MI to Joseph & Jodi (Harper) Houtz. He graduated from Bronson High School in 2015 and attended Central Michigan University, where he was instrumental in establishing the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was currently attending Chiropractic School at Life University in Marietta, GA.
Laine had worked summer jobs at Bills Steak House, Abbott Labs, Albright Farms and Shimp Excavating. He was very active in 4H for many years, showing cattle, swine, sheep and goats. Laine was an athlete, wrestling and running cross country during high school. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Laine is survived by his father Joe (Nicole Houghton) Houtz of Coldwater, his mother Jodi Modert of Rome City, IN; his siblings Cole Houtz of Middlebury, IN, Noah Houtz of Coldwater, Gabe Houtz of Coldwater, Leeham Modert of Rome City, IN, Leeland Modert of Rome City, IN, Bella Houghton of Coldwater, Seth VanStelle of Coldwater; his grandparents Randy & JoAnn Houtz of Bronson, Brad & Rhonda Harper of Sturgis; great grandmothers Joyce Taylor of Farwell, Grace Houtz of Coldwater; his uncles Jason and Justin Harper and a very special aunt and uncle Ragen and Jeff Houtz; many cousins and very special friends and classmates.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Joe Szafranski, Norma Szafranski, Ed & Verneal Harper, Roland Houtz and Charles Taylor.
Memorials may be directed to the Branch County Fair, Swine Barn.
