COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys soccer teams capped off a historic season Monday night with their annual awards banquet. Not only did the varsity team advance to the MHSAA state semi finals for the first time in program history, but the team ended the season tied with the most wins of any school in the state with a 22-4-1 record.
Also for the first time ever, Coldwater had one player make the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association All State First Team and two make the Second Team. Senior Jonathan Brownell, who scored 30 goals and had 12 assists, was named First Team All State. Senior Nasser Nagi, who finished with 14 goals and 12 assists, was named Second Team All State, as was junior goalkeeper Balal Nasser, who broke his own school record with 16 shutouts this season. All three were also named to the All Region and All District teams. Brownell will be honored at the Soccer Coaches Association All State Banquet November 18 in Lansing.
Also named All District were Tyler Kooi, Ben Fagen, Saleh Mohammed, Mohamed Nagi, and Mohamed Saleh.
Named to the Interstate 8 Conference First Team were Brownell, Nasser Nagi, Kooi, Jacob Knaack, and Balal Nasser. All Conference Honorable Mention were Fagen, Saleh Mohammed, and Mohamed Saleh.
Fagen was named Academic All State and Interstate 8 Academic All Conference. Also named Academic All Conference were Harwan Alaatre, Ivan Arredondo, Erik Corona, and Saleh Mohammed.
In team awards selected by the players, Erik Corona was named Most Improved, Ben Fagen and Mohamed Saleh were voted Hardest Workers, Jonathan Brownell was named Best Offensive Player, with Mohamed Saleh and Bakeel Abdullah selected Best Defensive Players, Salel Mohammed was picked as Rookie of the Year, and Balal Nasser named Most Valuable Player. Kooi received The Cardinal Way Coach’s Award.
Hunter Eldridge was named Most Valuable Player for the junior varsity team.
