COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – No Branch County teams qualified for Saturday’s MHSAA Cross Country State Finals at Michigan International Speedway but eight runners from the Branch County area will be competing.
Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly remained undefeated for the season with his third consecutive regional cross-country title last Saturday. He will be competing along Coldwater’s Kathy Potter in the Division Two finals.
Potter is a state finalist for the second time in her career following her ninth place finish at the regional meet last Saturday.
Potter’s race will start at 1:30 p.m. while Aljabaly’s race will go off at 2:50 p.m.
There will be three runners from Branch County in the Girls Division Three Finals. Bronson’s Xochitl Garcia qualified for the state finals with a seventh place finish last Saturday at the Regional meet. Quincy’s Madelyn Allman was 11th and Harmony Harpster was 14th. Garcia and Harpster are both making return trips to the finals.
Two Branch County runners are in the Boys Division Three Finals. Quincy’s Nathan Nohr and Bronson’s Luis Ortiz punched their tickets for MIS last weekend as Nohr was sixth and Ortiz was 15th at the Regional meet. Nohr is also making a return trip to MIS.
Tekonsha’s David Frederick will be competing in the Division Four Finals after his fourth place finish in the Regionals last Saturday.
