BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved a Letter of Understanding with the local Police Officers Association of Michigan union on Monday night as the City eventually wants to add a fifth Police Officer.
City Manager Brandon Mersman has been working with the union on a Letter of Understanding to the current contract regarding the new position.
He told the Council that given some uncertainty regarding future funding for this position, he requested an agreement with the union where the so-called “5th Officer” would be the first laid off.
Under the current agreement, all part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees would be the first to be laid off.
Mersman felt it would be very difficult to run the Department without crossing guards and part-time officers to fill in vacations and open shifts.
The union already agreed to the Letter of Understanding about the fifth officer being the first to get laid off.
