COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education approved a proposal on Monday night from Pro Power Strength Equipment for new weight lifting equipment at Coldwater High School.
The new equipment is being bought due to the condition of the current equipment which is said to be extremely old and has raised concerns for student safety.
The new weight equipment would be purchased for an amount not to exceed $33,570.
The Athletic Boosters will contribute $10,000 towards this purchase, making the total expense to the district no more than $23,570 to be paid from the General Fund.
In addition, the board approved a request from Coldwater High School Athletic Director Todd Farmer and High School teacher and coach Mark DeMeester to form a High School Powerlifting Club.
The proposed club will be for all students who are interested in becoming physically stronger through powerlifting. It was reported that several students have shown interest in joining the club which will meet in the weight room after school Monday through Thursday.
There will be no cost to the district for the operation of the club.
Funds for the club will be raised through lift-a-thon events to cover the cost of various equipment as well as entry fees for powerlifting contests.
