BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The recent trend of gas prices being less than $3 a gallon has continued into the new year at area service stations.
Gas Buddy is reporting prices in the Coldwater area were mostly between $2.85 and $2.89 a gallon on Tuesday at midday.
Lower prices could be found in Litchfield and Colon where gas is $2.79 a gallon and in Athens where the price per gallon was down to $2.77.
It’s even cheaper to the south in Steuben County, Indiana. One station in Angola was selling gas for $2.67 a gallon. Other stations in Angola and Fremont had a price of $2.68 per gallon.
Triple A of Michigan reported on Tuesday that the average price in Michigan was $2.88 a gallon which is down seven cents from a week ago, 29 cents in the last month and 31 cents in the last year.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in his blog on Tuesday, “While gas prices have risen in some areas, such as California after refinery snags emerged, other states have returned to declines. Illinois is one such example, falling below $3 per gallon for the first time since 2021. The Great Lakes and Gulf Coast offer some of the nation’s lowest gas prices, with the window of opportunity holding for the next few weeks to potentially re-test some of the levels seen a few weeks ago. The good news continues for average diesel prices, which slipped below $4 per gallon again and stand at their lowest level since the summer.”
