COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid went before the City Council on Monday night in hopes of convincing them the city’s police department should be part of the South West Enforcement Team, otherwise known as SWET.
The multi-jurisdictional law enforcement organization is comprised of a number of law enforcement agencies and is led by the Michigan State Police.
Lt. Richard Pazder with the State Police told the Council they operate in nine southwest Michigan counties where they investigate and prosecute drug offenses and other criminal activity.
Scheid delivered a power point which detailed some of the drug challenges facing the community.
The presentation and question-and-answer period lasted for over a half hour. The intent was to give the Council a chance to review what SWET is all about.
They could consider a grant to help offset some of the costs if the City decides to pursue joining SWET.
Action could be taken by the City Council during their next meeting on January 22, 2024.
